“Ayurveda is not just about treating diseases; it is about creating harmony in body, mind, and spirit."

What to Expect in Your Initial Ayurvedic Consultation?

During your initial consultation, we will delve deeply into understanding you as a whole person—your aspirations, current health concerns, and what optimal health means to you.

I believe in examining you as a person first, before addressing the disease itself.
This holistic perspective allows us to uncover why you may have developed certain health issues and how we can guide you back to a state of wellness.

In Ayurveda this is called Rogi-Roga Pariksha.
Rogi Pariksha: Diagnosis of the individual
Roga Pariksha: Diagnosis of the disease

Your consultation will involve a thorough exploration of your past medical history, family health background, and any current complaints.

We incorporate the Ashtavida Pariksha, or Eight-Fold Examination, as a key component of our physical assessment.

Through this process, we assess your constitution (Prakruthi) and identify any imbalances (Vikruthi) you may have.

Diagnostic Tools

  • Nadi (Pulse)

Within the pulse I am looking to determine the prevalent Doshas and how they are behaving within the body; whether they are strong, depleted or even overactive.
I also feel for each organ through differing levels of the pulse and can determine their health and the way doshas are affecting them.
The Pulse gives a very accurate picture of your health and any imbalances.

  • Jihva (Tongue)

Tongue Diagnosis gives a picture of how your body is functioning in the present time. Across the whole tongue your organs and body are mapped. I can see again how the Doshas are interacting in these areas, if there is malabsorption, depletion or excess in the body.
The tongue is also a really great tool for you to personally evaluate changes.

  • Nakha (Nail)

The nails show what we have been through recently and can also direct us to physical problems within the body.
The hands and nails give us a great look into your life so far and the possibilities of the future.
Whilst looking at hands I am assessing the shape and feel for dosha analysis. Mobility and strength of the fingers, the prominence of the mounts and the lines within the palm all add to our assessment.

  • Akriti (Face)

Our lines and facial markings are not simply a by product of ageing they have been earned as you have lived. I look for major lines, blemishes, discolourations as they can tell me about not just your physical but your emotional being.
Our eyes also map our organs. Spots, dots, marks over areas bring awareness to these body parts. The eyes can show disease susceptibly; inherited genetic obstacles. This is exceptionally helpful as we can take note of these areas knowing we should invest in to keep them healthy.

  • Malas (waste)

I will ask about urine and bowel movements; how often you move your bowels and about the stools and urine themselves. Waste elimination tells us a lot about your health.

In Ayurveda we are all about having great digestive power!  How you digest and what you digest are a visual clue to your digestive capacity. I always access digestion to understand its dosha.

While some of the questions I ask may seem unrelated to your current concerns, they are integral to Ayurveda’s detailed diagnostic approach. Each aspect helps me build a complete picture of your health, including both physical and mental dimensions.
